Have smalll motor it will start but only runs for about 15 secs aand then dies out. Have cleaned carb. Could the overhead valves be out of adjustment ot dirty? Does anybody have an idea of what I should look for. Please don’t give idiot responses like "go buy aniother motor". If I could afford it I would. Its for a kids go cart. thank you in advance.

That would usually be fuel related. When you first took it apart was there a lot of crud in the carb? If there was you likely still have some crud in there. If you did not remove all those plugs it can take a while to get all the crud out. Lately I have had a lot of trouble with sticking needles so look real close when you have it apart again. Other thing to do would be a compression check. Its the same tool you would use for a car. Its a gauge that goes in the spark plug hole. They can be had fairly cheap now days at autoparts stores. Some stores also rent them. I have not heard of a lot of problems with valve seats in the overhead valve motors. The flat heads sometimes had issues. I think the overheads are usually adjustable. The flats you have to grind the valve stem. Both are measured / set with a feeler gauge. Often the compression gauges have a hook up to a air compressor. This is used to put air into the cylinder. You then listen to where the most air is leaking out. Oil filler is rings, muffler is exhaust valve, air cleaner would be intake.
