Do you put ‘baby poop’ and ‘adult poop’ in the same category as far as ‘Disgusting!’ goes?

I am still grossed out about shopping cart handles (those things are SO vile, they are proven to be more infested with germs and bacteria than a PUBLIC RESTROOM. They are covered in human saliva, mucous, urine, fecal matter and blood from raw meat.)

Anyway, I asked if people used shopping cart covers because those things are so gross for a baby to be sitting in.
I also said that ‘Public High Chairs’ don’t bother me (as far as germs go) because only babies sit in them.
The reason shopping carts gross me out is because of the nasty hands of ADULTS touching the handles, not the babies.
Baby ‘germs’ don’t bother me.

A couple people said that ‘baby poop’ is just as bad as adult poop.
WHAT? I don’t think that at all..
Baby poop isn’t pleasant, but it wouldn’t gross me out. If a baby got poop (or vomit) on me I wouldn’t freak out … BUT if an adult pooped on me (or vomited) on me I would totally freak out. I’d probably cry. lol.

So, am I weird for not thinking that baby poop is as gross as adult poop?
Do *most* people put baby poop and adult poop in the same category as for a ‘Nasty and Disgusting!’ goes?

[and here is the link about how incredibly vile shopping cart handles really are]

I agree with you. I have a lot of respect for the people who care for the elderly who have lost control of their bowels. I could never do that job. Kudos to them!

I remember your question from last night and I was going to coment then, I guess I will now. I do disagree that the restaurant high chairs are not gross. They are! I worked in a restaurant a long time ago and those things were never cleaned! For the most part they were stored in a closet type area or someplace out of the way but I’m quite sure they get cleaned a lot less often then the cart seats. Besides, it’s the busboy (with god knows what on his hands) that usually gets it for you or another parent (with filthy hands too). Also people often flip the seats over to prop the baby carseat on it at the table if the baby is too young to sit in a high chair. So the top of the high chair is on the ground in whatever nasty mess is on the floor. Yuck!!! I bring a little seat that hooks onto the table to eliminate the worry about the high chairs. I feel much more comfortable knowing Avary is in a clean, safe seat to eat her food.

I do agree the grocery carts are nasty, maybe nastier but I think the high chairs are pretty darn gross too!

I agree with you. Baby is whatever, its poop but you gotta deal with it. Adult poop not so much. I’d cry too if someone pooped or vomitited on me. SICK

a baby can’t control what they do. An adult can. there in lies the difference.

I agree with you…I would definitely prefer to change a babies diaper over an adult…BIG DIFFERENCE

Germ wise, its all the same. Baby germs are no less harmless than adult germs. Germs are germs. But when it comes to what I would rather clean up, I would much rather clean up baby bodily fluids than adults, b/c for the most part, adults bodily fluids smell worse than babies’ bodily fluids. Little people (babies), Little poop, Big people, BIg poop. BTW I’m a nurse who chooses to work with babies for this reason

I think adult poop is way grosser than baby poop. And I also realize that grosser is not a word but I use it anyway. :) Shopping carts are disgusting but babies have to be exposed to germs a little bit to keep their immune systems up. My daughter used to try to chew on the shopping cart handles! She doesn’t do it anymore thank goodness but I don’t use a shopping cart cover… LOL

Adult poop is way grosser! One thing that deterred me from becoming a nurse is a weak stomach for adult poop.

I love the smell of my breastfed baby’s poop. To me that buttery smell is actually pleasant.

That is hilarious! I think I unconsciously put them on different planes even though biologically, they are both rotting putrid matter. It seems so innocent when coming from the bottom of a babe as opposed to an adult bottom:) LOL. My life is poop, as I have a 1, 3, & 5 year old and am constantly wiping bottoms, scraping poop off the crib, the walls, the cloth diapers (to save $$$) and I’ve learned to disinfect the toilet seats in our house after one of my kids has ‘thrown down a deuce’ as we like to say in our house. It is amazing how they can literally paint the toilet at times. I have to laugh about it! Yet, I gross out when someone leaves a nasty surprise in the public restroom. It just seems so disrespectful! I should probably think more about the vileness of shopping carts. I tend to not think about it, but after reading the article on snopes, I think I’ll go back to the Clorox wipes again.

Between animals and people I have spent the better part of my working life around poop .I’ve worked as a nurses aide and a vet asst and I have two kids. Baby poop is a whole different ballgame then anything that will come out of an adult. Especially if you breastfeed it doesn’t come close to the ick factor of any other excrement.

no. not until the baby starts to eat solids, thats when i would say its gross

but when its just milk, thats not nasty

ADULTS ARE DISGUSTING and eat disgusting food
babies are more clean and dont eat such unhealthy things, so their poop isnt as gross

Shopping carts have URINE on them?!? eww… I wonder how that happens…

For some reason, it doesn’t bother me to change my daughters poopy diapers. Even when it gets on me, I don’t freak out. I just wash it off with soap and water. Maybe it is because she is my daughter but her poop and puke don’t seem to bother me much.

I agree with you about the whole shopping cart thing….same with door knobs and such…so gross…

As for the baby poop…it is definitely not AS disgusting as adult poop. However, if I got some random babies spit-up or poop on me (baby who I don’t know anything about or anything about the parents and such) I would be grossed out….but it is NOT the same as human poop as far as grossness goes.

I would STILL wash up after something like that happened. Regardless of whether or not I knew the baby personally.

EDIT- I also agree with atlas_junkie about the baby chairs in restaurants.

I also feel that I do not want anybody’s (baby or adult) bodily fluids on me unless it is my son’s (that is different and something that I cannot really change)
