I twisted my ankle a few days ago. Because of this I’ve been avoiding going to the store but there was stuff I needed so I went to WalMart (one of the huge supercenters) yesterday. I opted to use an electric cart because it is too painful/difficult to walk and had noone to help with the shopping. I am very obese but normally I don’t use these electric carts nor do I park in handicapped spaces. Based on the glares and a few insults everyone (including the employees) must have assummed that I was using the electric cart because I’m fat and lazy. Was I wrong or rude to be using the cart since I’m not elderly or handicapped?

You were hurt. That is in no way wrong. People are rude and over-presumptuous.

    your hurt so its ok

No, because you were genuinely hurt. I do know a large guy who does shop in the electric cart all the time and to be honest it is annoying. I think people should just mind their own business.

Don’t pay any mind to what other people think. You probably noticed it because you thought that, but it’s probably not true. I’m skinny and lazy I think those carts are for any one that is tired of walking! Sometimes those feet are wore out!

Yes you were both wrong and rude. You had to walk to get from your car to the store. IMO, if you can walk you should NOT EVER use one of those carts….no matter how much your damn injury hurts. I broke my leg a year ago and NEVER used one because I could still walk.

Its okay….but how about next time…..wearing something that SHOWS your bandage? And how about really going overboard with it? I mean, make a good neat big bandage of it. its a pity some people prefer to be mean and rude.
But…..how can you be so sure of your assumptions in the first place? Sometimes when we need to do something a little out of the ordinary, and we may have low self esteem or may not have very much confidence, we all tend to presume people might be saying or thinking certain things, when in actual fact, they have problems of their own, and carry frowns, because of their worries. So try smiling and enjoy using the electric carts. just a smile at people, can lift their spirits and it helps you to feel better too.

Melissa M, what a hypocrite you are. You say you, you know a large guy who uses a scooter in a store and it irritates you. But, then, you say people need to mind their own business. So, whats up with that, huh? Get over your self!

Now, to answer the question. No, you were not wrong for using a scooter, if you can’t walk and or it causes you any discomfort to walk, then by all means use it. If you have a handicap tag for your car, then by all means park in the handicap. Screw what other people think. PEOPLE NEED TO MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS. That would make this place a let better place to live..

PEOPLE JUST NEED TO GET OVER THEM SELF AND GET A GD LIFE!!!

You were well within your rights to use an electric wheelchair if you needed it, no one knows what your "problem" is, it may be a twisted ankle, bum knee or any other issue. people need to mytob.
At least they looked at you, when my son had back surgery, we used my grandmother’s old wheel chair so he could still go out and about. People would not look at him or just glance at him and ask me what was wrong with him. he was 13 and very articulate he could answer for himself,

My mother is handicapped and must use an electric cart to shop. I hate it when people like you use these carts taking them away from people who REALLY need them like my mom. ..so to answer your question…yes, it was wrong and very rude of you to use the cart. If you can walk you shouldn’t use the cart.
