How do you get more HP from a 2HP Briggs & Straton horizontal shaft (edger) engine?

I’ve got an old edger which is crap but the 2HP engine is still good. And I know where I can get a go-cart frame with a bad engine. Should swap over with little modifications but 2HP is probably not enough. How can I or is it possible to gain more HP without major engine work?

not really. what you might gain is fractional. 2 hp is not a lot to start with.

    more info,is it a 2 stroke?

You could probably get more hp by getting a good air filter, and really the most you can do is probably rebuild it. Maybe a bore(make cylinders bigger) and put bigger pistons to go with it and maybe even a longer connecting rod for more compression. Change the spark plug and make sure you use the lowest fuel which prob is 87.Idk,theyre not my thing i cant really help you.

HP is the measurement of the amount of work being done. Which is different than its torque.

Consider your engine as an apparatus based on leverage. Increase the stroke, you increase the leverage/torque/force, then your engine will have the ability to do more work per unit time. Um…HP.

Which means, put a stroker crankshaft in it, basically, to gain the leverage, of course this will mean checking rod lengths, piston clearances and changing them as needed. Try a different bump stick too.
