I would say search around for old lawn-mowers in newspaper and internet classifieds and start with the engine from that.

As you may notice a lawnmower engine’s crankshaft (the shaft that sticks out and rotates) is vertical while a typical go-kart engine’s crankshaft is horizontal: DO NOT just tip the lawnmower’s (vertical) engine onto it’s side and mount it on the cart frame, they do not appreciate this and will refuse to run very shortly after ;-)

This is certainly not an easy project: It will almost certainly require welding and some machine work, that is, a mill or a lathe may be required to make parts fit together. You can simply search the yellow pages for a machine shop in your town and I’m sure they would gladly assist you. P.S. talk to them about welding, this is a great place to recruit someone to do this for you.

Good luck! You’ll learn quite a bit of very useful information on your journey, and above all, have fun!

umm enless u have extra help your probably going to fail this one….. unless u buy alot of parts already put together a complicated list would be head, head bolts, spark plug, magneto, flywheel, crankshaft, camshaft, exhaust pipe, exhaust and intake valves, timing chain, tappits, piston, connecting rod, crank bearings, carb, oil slinger, cylinder, block, and some kind of starter………………..your better off just buying a bottom end and top end of a motor and putting the two together
