$50.00 Many years back got involved with a gokart project– I provided a 250cc Yamaha twin 25/30hp engine to replace the 5hp Briggs & Stratton engine. Another engine tried was a 650 Triumph. Kart was tested at Union Grove drag strip outside Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, did about 100mph at end of strip with shutdown from running out of gas engine. Kart hadn’t been inspected or approved, just quick run to see how it would do but inspector saw the end of run and impounded it , inspected and rejected it for various safety reasons- as no proper brakes, no rollover protection, improper gas tank, no safety switchs, no seat belts- you get the idea of what happens when engine swap only is done. Was fun fixing it to pass inspection- front axle replacement from racing kart had front brakes to augment the original back axle band brake , roll cage was handy when flipping it over to check bottom, gas tank was a double lined bladder and steel unit with safety cap instead of lawnmower tank. couple deadman switches and kill switch installed. Final inspection a couple months later got it back in time for late fall runs- just broke 100 with triumph engine but was classed kind of non competitive against 750cc engines. The 250 swap was class competitive.

wow, you’re insane. but my best advice would be to find a dirtbike motor, 80-125cc should be more than enough for a go-kart. you can find a decent one for only a couple hundred bucks.

well at my junk yard my uncle found a 650cc , a 270cc, and a 100cc each for 75$ figured out the 270 and 100 just had clogged jets in the carb and the 650 didnt even have a carb but it was like brand new so we put a fuel injector in it.
