i want to put a lawn mower engine on a ket car. a ket car is a small pedal car that children can play with put I’m tired of pedaling and want to use it as a go cart. the ket car had gears and a chain and can be built onto. i was wondering how i could attach a lawn mower engine to it but the lawn mower isn’t ride on. can some one tell how to do this.

go here to see what it looks like(this isnt the same one i have mine is older and can have parts added to it and is also made of metal) http://www.kfamilytoys.com/images/KET_KABRIO_8857090.jpg

if the car in the web site is the one like you are going to use I think it would be iffy since there is so much plastic.

if you can put a pulley on the motor, put it on a belt drive. much safer than a chain. mym dad used a 3hp briggs for mine when i was a kid.

If you can find one an engine off a roto-tiller is good because some of them already have a gear-reduction.
If you can find an engine from a self-propelled lawn mower then you could use the little transmission off that to transfer power to the ket car.
Your challenge is going to be getting the rpm’s of the mower engine down to manageable speed for the go-cart.
You can get a little friction clutch that will do it. It stays in neutral until you give the engine some gas, then it slowly speeds up. You attach the friction clutch to the mower engine shaft, then run a bicycle chain to a gear on the axle of the go-cart. You have to be a bit handy to set it up. Good luck!
