i’m from malta, just 15yrs old. i used to drive go carts at age 12-14. i was twice champ of my age. i can’t asfford to pay for private school and buy go-cart. how can i get international sponsors to notice me? they only go scouting in large countries such as england, italy etc… in malta we have lots of pros at car racing but no one ever notice us..back to the point …..pls help, what can i do?
The scouts go to larger venues because you have to attain a certain level of proficiency & competition to do those races. You and your parents have to work out a way for you to compete in larger and more prestigious competitions if that is what you want to do.
Talk to your parents about what you want to do with this. You will have to be really adult in your approach with them, have detailed information about career opportunities, sponsorship funding that could become available to you if you progress to higher levels of competition, etc. And be persuasive. No whining. No "teenaged angst." Intelligent, rational discussion of your future opportunities, costs and benefits, your personal safety (mom cares more than you think!), etc.
Make an offer (what you can do to help with costs) and cut a deal ("if we can get me to 3 higher level competitions & I win/place/show in at least one, then we will continue; if I cannot cut it at that level of competition despite your full support and encouragement + my genuine work, then I quit, get a job and pay you back $X over the next Y months").
