I have a couple of go-karts I built for my kids. One uses a 10 HP Tecumseh, the other uses a 5. On the 10 HP I had a big problem with the carb. I came to realize that those carbs either run good at idle or they run good at a set speed, they do not like to change speeds or accelerate. They also leak fuel when abused, or used like on a kart. I ended up getting a 22MM Mikuni carb and installing it. I only had to file out the manifold bolts slightly to make it fit, in fact I had my son do that. Now my kart takes of like you shot it out of a cannon and it will rip up to 40 in no time. My kart is built for the dirt and my son is only 10 so I had to make a stop for the gas pedal to restrict the speed. Bottom line, the engine idles well, acelerates good, and is faster than I expected. You can go online to Ebay and search Mikuni carbs. With a 6 HP I would look for an 18MM like I am going to put on my 5 HP. I have found them for around $50.00.
p.s. I would like to see pictures of your kart.

Tecumseh engines are more or less throw away engines. It’s not too surprising that you’re having trouble with the carb on them. The other fellow has the right idea I think. Replace the carb with a higher quality one, and your problems will be over.

i would try a new carb it sound like the seat for the needle valve is cracked or worn

Did you kit this thing yet? The other option you have is to go to a small engine shop and get a float spring for a 2 stroke tecumseh carb from a snowblower, this will help to reduce float bounce and cut down on the leaking, what it boils down to is your needle is not seating, either the seat is old and needs replaced, or if it is new it was improperly installed. Tecumsehs are not bad engines, but their carbs can be touchy.
