I don’t mean ebay or things like that. I want to be able to run my own website and sell my own homemade items ect. and start my own business. Should I take a class or are there any good books to help on this. I need to know how to get a website, domain, shopping carts, ect. and how to incorporate it all. And figure out how much it all costs. Thanks for anyone who can help!
Also, is there a site or somewhere that I can find out what’s a good investment or not. LIke what’s hot or what’s not. ect. so I know if what I’m looking for is even worth the time and effort?

If you want to do things yourself, you might want to find a web host that already have shopping tools and e-commerce. There are several tools that you can integrate into your site so you can manage it yourself. You can create the site in html and integrate the ecommerce portion using Host tools such as: Yahoo’s e-commerce merchant, Netfirms e-commerce, or Miva Merchant.
These are all pretty easy to setup. After you have your site up and running you might want to invest in advertising, on the web, using tools like google’s adword, or yahoo’s listings and you want to make sure your site is pretty visible "Search engine optimization". I think all these tools are pretty self explanatory and you could even have trial offers of their interface before you actually purchase anything. I say have a trial site so you can play around with it till you settle on what your site should look like. Also browse around to see your competition.

Here are some helpful URLS for the Do it yourself types :)

    http://www.homestead.com/
    http://www.netfirms.com/
    http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/
    http://smallbusiness.miva.com/

You can also hire a consultant to guide you though the process or actually do this for you.
