If an engine blows white smoke and wont start back up, is there still hope to get the engine fixed?
Its a 250cc gocart and still turns but just wont start. Is there any hope for this engine and what are some things to look for? ...

IF its blue smoke its oil issues—if its white smoke its it usually water or anti-freeze- but i do not think you have anti-freeze in that thing. take the head off first because it sounds like you have a hole in the piston or the rings are broke, if so that’s not a big expensive deal. Just take a compression check first, takes about 2 minutes, If its not over ( lets say 110 lbs of compression) you have that piston or ring issue. Good luck
I assume the engine is air cooled, cranks at a normal speed rather than way too fast, and the tank has good fuel. Small engines like that are hard to kill.
There are two main things to look for – fuel delivery and spark. The easiest thing to try is to shoot some starting fluid in the intake while or just before cranking it. If the starting fluid makes it run for a moment, carburetor cleaning or fuel line checkout is the way to go. If still no sign of life, check out the spark.
