I am going to train my mini horse who is 7. I was wondering how long does it take to fully train a mini? I went to get a harness a few days ago and the lady at the shop said minis are easy to cart train, is it true? Thanks.

you can get your minature going with cart training within 3-4months and yes they are one of the best. they have good driving skills and when they take off you know you wont be going 100 miles an hour!.

Miniature horses can easily be hitched to a cart or wagon and can pull up to ten times their weight. The ranch breeds for small, well-mannered show quality miniature horses that have good driving ability at affordable prices.

To the person who answered before me, a Mini cannot pull 10 times their weight. The average Mini horse would be stuck pulling something around 2000 pounds-not likely! The actual figure is closer to two times, so a 200 lb Mini could pull about 400 lbs under ideal circumstances.

Minis are not usually any harder or any easier to train to harness than any other breed of horse. However, you need to keep in mind DRIVING IS DANGEROUS. What would be a minor problem when riding a horse becomes a serious issue when you add a cart to the equation.

I highly recommend you get every book and video available on the subject, and see if you can find someone in your area who drives to get you going. You will need some help to do this-it’s the safest way for both you and your Mini.
