I want to buy one of those shopping cart covers for my son. He’s too big to be in a car seat now and it’s uncomfy for him–he’d rather be out, sometimes it’s hard to wear a baby carrier while shopping, and if I bring a stroller I have nowhere to put stuff that I want to buy. I also want to use it in highchairs when we go out.
What shopping cart cover brand do you recommend? Did your child like it? Do you think it’s a useful item to buy?
Also, what age do they normally start using these? I am afraid he might be too small and may bounce all over the place. He’s almost 8 months and weighs about 18 lbs or so.

Hey All…
Well earlier today i was at the grocery store with my almost 9 week old baby, & my mom. Well guess what happened!?!? Some guy just grabbed my daughter out of her car-seat!! I had turned around becouse i was talking to my best-friend’s mom she had asked me how my new school was going ( I go to a school for teen-parents), I had my hand on the cart, & the cart was right next to me ( Emma was in her car-seat in the cart). Well some guy just comes up & grabs Emma out of her car-seat! I turn around really fast becouse i had felt the cart move & there he was just holding her! I start yelling at him ( I normaly am a very nice person but this made me mad), & tell him to give me my daughter right now & he has the nerve to ask what he did wrong! So my best-friend’s mom goes up & takes Emma from he’s arms. I told the guy he better leave right now, before I call the cop’s on him. Has this happened to you before? What did you do? Do you think I over-reacted?
I wasn’t really thinking, now that i think about it i should have called the cops, but at that moment i just wanted the guy to get far away from me.
I don’t know what he was planning on doing he was still standing right by the cart & he was an old-looking man so maybe he thought it was okay? I don’t know, i should have called the cops i know but at that moment i just wanted the guy to get far,far away from me.

When my son was little, about 3 I think, I had to pick him up from my mom’s house after work, then I had to run a few errands, one of which was stop by the grocery store. Back then (in the mid to late 90′s) they just started coming out with those grocery carts with the built on car seats. Well my son was tired, and cranky, and didn’t want to walk. I thought that if I put him in one of those seats that he would possibly go to sleep (as he always fell asleep in his own car seat) so I asked a clerk that worked there if they had any of those carts with the seats. She said, I guess they’re all taken, look around for one. Why do you want to put him in one anyway, he’s too big for a car seat! Real snotty like. Excuse me, but at three aren’t they still in a booster car seat in the car? It wasn’t any of her business anyways why I wanted to put him in one. It’s not like he was 10-he was 3!! Why can’t people mind their own business? I don’t remember what I told her.
what’s a situation where you wish you had told the person off but didn’t?

Today my two month old was in his car seat and the car seat was set up on the seat of a shopping cart. Somehow the seat hit something and the whole thing fell. It was in a clothes store and the clothes broke his fall, when I tried to catch him, I may have made it worse. I don’t think HE hit the floor because the handle was up on the seat, and he was strapped in, and he had the neck brace thing in his seat. He cried for a minute, and had a small bump and some redness over his eye, but it has gone away. I was terrified and I still am. Is there anything I should be looking for? He is eating and sleeping fine. I’m just concerned.

I don’t like the Snap N Go’s and I’ve heard that they are hard to steer and don’t work very well, their also ugly. I also don’t want to spend money on a travel system when I know that as soon as my baby is 6 or 7 months old I’ll be using a small, lightweight umbrella stroller and not the huge full-sized stroller. So my question is, do I really even need a stroller for when he’s still in his infant seat? Where do you use these strollers at? At the store I could put him in the cart.. (of course in his car seat, in the big basket NOT sitting on top which you are not supposed to do.) Thanks!

My son is five months old and since he’s tall and big for his age, it’s getting harder to carry him in his carrier when I go shopping. He can sit up pretty well supported, so I’m sure we can start putting him in a normal car seat soon. However, I’m not sure if he would be able to sit up well in the front seat of a shopping cart. Just wondering at what age can they do this? Thanks
By the way, I’m not asking when my son can use a forward facing car seat. I know that’s when he’s 1 year old. We have a normal car seat that can face backwards like most can.

I am going shopping at Kohl’s tomorrow and will be bringing my 9 week old baby. I have never brought my baby with to Kohl’s before and am wondering if his car seat will fit in their shopping carts? I know they’re not the normal kind like at Target and Wal-mart. Has anyone brought their baby in his car seat before and their carts work?

My baby is 2 months old now so doctor said it’s okay to go in public places. My question is how do you carry your baby while you are shopping in stores? I see some people put the car seat on top of the shopping cart but I am too scared to do that. On the side of my car seat it clearly says not to do that cause the cart can flip over. What other options do I have?

Okay, so I’m a first time mom (33 weeks with #1) and I admit I haven’t done a whole lot of research on strollers and carseats (bad mommy already). I basically relied on my sister-in-law who did all the research a year ago when she was expecting her first and I followed her recommendation and registered for a Travel System that includes the heavy-duty stroller, car seat, and car seat base. Thankfully, I didn’t receive this item yesterday at my shower because I’m having doubts. Another friend who has a 6 month-old was telling me that she just uses a "frame" stroller (that may not actually be the name of it) and pops her car seat right in there, she loves the smaller size and the convenience of what she chose. So now I’m confused and would love advice from mommies who have been here and know what I’m talking about. Which stroller and car seat did you choose? I’m concerned about choosing a car seat that will last for the longest amount of time (the one I chose accomodates up to I think 24 lbs but there are others that go up to 30lbs?) and I also would appreciate a seat that fits into a cart at the grocery store and I don’t think the one I chose does. Any and all advice would be GREATLY appreciated by this overwhelmed, under-researched mommy-to-be who doesn’t have a clue!!!

I have a 3.5 year old and am about to have a baby. So I need to buy a car seat! I just don’t know what to get to make things more convenient and/or cheaper with less hassle. For my son I used an infant carrier for the first year, but I remember him getting very heavy to carry in it and eventually we just started taking him out of it instead. What I want to know is, with a 3 year old am I going to be able to handle carrying around a carrier? Will I be able to handle a 3 year old while carrying around a baby? Should I just buy one of those infant to booster seats? (all in one) And skip the carrier altogether? What did you do? How did it work for you? I also have not figured out how I will go grocery shopping with a carrier, if I put the carrier in the seat of the cart, my 3 year old would ride in the basket, then where would I fit groceried? lol. Obviously I am new at this. Tell me what works for you!!!
Correction, most infant carriers have a weight limit of 20 to 25 lbs, I have light babies, this should not ba a problem with me, but I do have a bum shoulder (for carrying it).
It is not recommended to use any harnessed car seats after 6 years.
Most all in one car seats, or at least the one I would get, is not recommended to be used after 6 years, but after removing the back and just using the booster, it is safe for up to 9 years.
I know how to read and have researched the car seats I am talking about. It states on the car seat that though the harnessed portion of the car seat may expire after 6 years. The backless booster can be used for an additional 3 years.
But I do agree that when it comes time to use a backless booster, if at all, I can just go buy one, they are cheap.
My concern is not the weight. My son outgrew his infant seat in height before ever reaching the weight limit. Forcing us to purchase a convertible seat to continue the rear facing position. I assume this child will be similar, certainly not the opposite.

Do you carry them in your car seat when you go to visit someone? What about when you go to the store? Just curious because my girl is getting very heavy. She can sit up in a cart, but what if she would get sleepy while shopping. I’ve never used a sling, but she weighs 17 pounds so she is pretty big. If you do use a certain item to carry them, what particular one do you use?

I currently use a car seat and just stick in the cart to shop.
How do I shop once I move on to the convertible car seat???
My daughter is almost 6 months and not strong enough yet to go in the seat of the shopping cart.
Thanks for any advice.

I’m a stay-at-home-Mom. Last Thursday, I had to go to Lowe’s to get a few things for our home. My 4 mo old was asleep so I took her in her car seat and put her in the front part of the shopping cart where I normally would have my 2yr old. Because of this I had to place my 2 yr old in the bigger part of the cart because there was nowhere else to put her in order to keep her from running around the store. I would have put my 4mo old in the bigger part of the cart, but then the front part of the cart would not open up so that my 2yr old could fit. Here’s the deal. Of course being 2, my daughter kept standing up and reaching for things and I would constantly tell her to sit down. I mean I felt I did everything I could to try and keep them both safe. But as I was going slowly around the next aisle, somehow she fell out. I didn’t actually see her fall, because the babyseat was blocking her, so she probably stood up, lost her balance and fell out. But I heard a loud thud and went around only to see my daughter at 1st, rolling around on the floor holding her head. I quickly picked her up and held her asking was she ok, but there was no crying and no screaming. I looked at her and she was out of it. I was blinded by tears and kept calling her name but she never answered. I was so scared. I kept saying over and over to everyone who gathered around, "I had nowhere else to put her". She ended up being rushed to the trauma center and after several CTC, cat scans and MRI’s, she had a small bruise on the brain that should clear up on its on. She’s back to her normal self now (THANK GOD) tho she complains of a headache every so often and we’re praying no seizures ever happen. But now Lowe’s is saying they want to pay for the ambulance ride and the medical bills. I am wondering do they think I am going to sue or something. Is there something I’m missing the reason they are being so eager? I didn’t really think it was their fault, but I was going to suggest to the manager to get some bigger carts for Moms who have to do some shopping there when they have more than one small child. So what should I do? I don’t want to sue, I just want them to get better carts for Mothers who have to bring their small children with them. Should I be seeking legal counsel about this? Normally I would go to Lowe’s with my hubby, but he now works 2 jobs to keep us afloat and is not at home alot, so I have no choice but to take our 2 girls with me wherever I go to get things done.
I do believe I am at fault, but as I said before I had nowhere else to put her. And I have to get things for the house, i have to. I felt I had no choice. Doesn’t mean it was a good decision, I love my child too much to risk this again. We have been home ever since.
I have the stroller, but can not shop with a stroller in lowes, because i have nowhere to put the bigger items. And I said in my details, I do NOT want to sue, i was just wondering about their eagerness, was I missing something. I just think they need a few better carts. Again, i had nowhere else to put her and I have seen many children put in the bigger part of the basket when carrying a smaller baby in a car seat. I would have put my 4mo old in the bigger part in her seat which is also against shopping cart rules, and put my 2yr old in the front, but the cart was too small for this. You can’t push a cart with a car seat on it and still see the 2yr old. Though I kept checking on her. She just gets excited about things in the stores. SHe’s not bad, she’s just…2. But at other stores, they have carts to accomodate more than 1 child.
Does anyone see that I said I don’t think it’s their fault and that I really don’t want to sue, I just want the better carts. Our house is a fixer upper, bought before they were born, but we are child proofing it better, so Lowes is the place we shop at most. This is the 1st time I went to Lowes w/o my hubby because he now has 2 jobs. Spanking is true, maybe I should have done that. So I am not suing, my child is fine now. But the carts is another story. Come on, what in the world should us Mothers in this situation do?. I’ve heard a good advice about wearing the baby. But as far as putting my 2 year on a leash? Ha, we’ve tried that and she figured out how to get loose and it was a good one. But anyway, I think I got enough answers to see Lowe’s is just being really nice and we will continue to shop there! Thanks for your good and bad answers.
Finally, some answers with heart in them. Hello People!!! I just saw my child rushed to the emergency room and now has a bruise on her head that I have to see everyday! So why tell me I’m irresponsible and a moron, etc when I have said it’s my fault, I don’t want to sue, I just wanted to know WHY they were offering to pay. When I 1st heard they wanted to pay, I was taken aback, like "Why"! So I decided to ask on here to see if there was something I didn’t see. But let me add this… If a person admists they are at fault and they have suffered seeing their child unresponsive, on a gurney in the hospital, etc, why would you be heartless and rub it in? It’s hard enough these days to get anybody to admit their faults and I am someone who does and yet you still rub it in? Crazy! But anyway, now I got some good answers and info to take to Lowes about the shopping carts. We have spent a lot of money at Lowes in the past fixing up our home, now I think we can work together on this!

I am debating whether I should start out with a convertible seat, or with an infant seat. The "convienence" of lugging a baby bucket around in a stroller/shopping cart is not an issue for me. I plan to leave the seat in the car, and carry the baby in sling or something. When the baby is too big for a sling, I’ll use an umbrella stroller.
option 1: 1st years true fit, then later opt for a booster, when my baby exceeds the 65 pound weight limit
option 2: graco snug ride 35 until she/he reaches 35 pounds, then switch a convertible booster, such as the graco natralis seat after 35 pounds
Which is a better option? Hubby and I share a CR-V, so I was kind of concerned about the angle issue. Would an infant seat be easier to install at the correct angle? I am worried about having to rig it up with pool noodles and such, even with a professional installer. Either option would allow for extended rear-facing of up to 35 pounds (in theory).
Yes, pool noodles are what the professional car seat installers suggest to create the proper 45 degree angle needed for a rear-facing seat.

Today my husband and I went grocery shopping with our 3-month old for the first time. I brought her in her stroller and he pushed the cart.
I don’t know if people don’t normally bring their little babies to the market or if I just never noticed before (probably the latter), but how do people usually bring their little ones to the market? Mine isn’t old enough to sit up in the child seat of the cart. Do you just put the car seat in the cart? propped up in the child seat (is that safe?)? I guess I would put her in my ergo carrier or moby wrap if I had to go alone but I was wondering how everyone else did it.
i have a graco safeseat carseat. does anyone know if this snaps on to grocery carts safely? Thanks!!

…its cold outside, you are by yourself and you need a shopping cart to put them in? Do you try and park close to the basket return to grab a basket, do your best to carry them in yourself, or leave the car running and run in to get a basket real quick?
I’ve had this dilemma a few times because hubby is too lazy to go with me or watch the kids and was wondering what other parents do with multiple children. I do my best to park near a basket return and if I can’t I drive around until I can, or do my best to carry my children in. My oldest is 2 and youngest is 7 mo. The little one is too big for a car seat so I have to carry her and my 2 yr old walks well but wants to run off if I don’t keep a hold of him. What do you do?
I never leave my children in the car, Ive seen people do that and it makes me sick!
Double stroller would be ok but then where would you put the groceries? the basket underneath sure isnt big enough and i cannot leave my kids with my hubby for the main fact he is on call all the time and may have to leave and a babysitter is not an option and i HAVE to go to the store

I have a toddler who was some sensory issues, so I buy him specifically recommended toys. He has had a tendancy to throw temper tantrums from time to time (especially when told "No"). These tantrums include head banging, scream as loud as possible, pinching self, biting self, pulling hair and sometimes acting out on older sibling. I have tried to distract him with things when I see the behavior starting. I have tried time out in the playpin. It much more controllable at home because he can run and play and stay busy. Going to the store and driving around are another story because he is strapping in the cart or car seat. Just looking for more ideas to curb this behavior.
Many thanks!

ok i am about to have my 2nd baby, and my daughter will be around 21 months when this one comes. we usually walk her around the grocery store if its me and my hubby (one to wrangle her up when she decides to run a muck, or we just sit her in the cart, depends where we are) but whats the easiest way to shop with 2 babies? i mean in wal mart im not going to want to be pushing a dual stroller and a shopping cart. i dont think it would be very easy holding my daugthers hand as i am pushing a cart. with the new baby, i will sit the car seat in the shopping cart (the front part) but where does my toddler go? this sounds soo silly, but im wondering, how do you shop with your babies??
wow, brainfart! i didnt even think of a sling!! THANK YOU!! YAY

I’m planning on taking my baby who turns 1 tomorrow on a trip from Tampa, FL. to Kansas in a few weeks. I flew with him once when he was 6 months old and he barely wanted to sit still then. Now, he’s bigger, stronger, and has a bit of a temper, and I’m afraid of taking him on an airplane because he will refuse to sit still and he will scream all of the time because he can’t run all over the place. He’s a happy baby but when you try and restrain him in a car seat or in a shopping cart, he gets so mad.
I’m considering a train ride which will take around 2 whole days. If you’ve been on a train before, what is it like? How are the seats? Can you get up and walk around easily? If you took your young toddler, how did he or she do?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Plus, I’m terrified of flying with my baby. If something went wrong, I would consider it my fault because I put his life at risk. I absolutely hate flying with him because I worry that something will go wrong.
