Hi
Last month I upgraded my infant car seat to the next level and discovered I can no longer just keep my baby in his car seat when we go shopping. Although he sits very well (crawl and stands even) I just do not feel confident about placing him in the shopping cart seat ( I’m afraid he’ll fall over). Then I worry about how I’ll entertain him in that thing, I had toys dangling from his carrier before. Has anyone else found this transition difficult. Any tips what I can do to make it easier.
I’ve been using my snuggly but now that its winter and he is in his snow suit he wont fit in that.
thanks
yes I know I should just go for it already. I never realized how much I depended on my infant carrier. I’ll go and get one of those cart covers to start. thanks
I recently had to put my 6 month old in a convertible car seat. I researched products to find something he could use to sit comfortably and safely whilst shopping. I found the buggybag cart cover. It is not cheap, but it is well reviewed and has many features I like. It opens/installs with one hand. It has a well constructed safety harness. Additionally it has a pillow/padding so a baby can lie down in it.
A cart cover, they sell them at babies rus and some of them have toys on them, Your baby is way old enough to be sitting in a cart buckled up, My son has been sitting in one since 7 months old.
don’t stay in the store for very long and don’t take the kid shopping during his meal time or if you are going to be out and about during his meal time unless you bring his bottle along for him to suck on while you finish getting through the store.
He should do just fine strapped in to the cart seat. If you want something for him to play with, put something that used to hang from his infant seat and hang it on the handle of the cart.
We started putting my daughter in just the cart around 9-10 months old, and she did good strapped in.
Agree with the answer above, but you don’t even need the cart cover. Make sure you do your shopping at a time when your little boy is awake, happy, and had eaten. Just being with you and seeing all the things in the store and other people will keep him pretty entertained. Just keep some snacks and wipes on hand and you should be fine. Use the seat belt in the cart. He won’t tip over or fall out.
The cart cover is a great idea. They usually will have loops to attach toys too. My son never liked that infant seat so I have always had to be creative with any kind of shopping. He loves to sit in the cart though. He gets so excited he squeals and smiles at everyone. Those covers come with seat belts but when unloading your groceries it is kind of nerve-wracking because you have to be on the other side of the cart.
If you are really worried about him, then get two small pillows to take with you to the store. Either that or you could go to a place like walmart or zellers and look for a multi-purpose belt. Otherwise, don’t really worry about him falling over because his snow suit can act enough like pillows cause of its size! Good Luck!
When my son was that age, I had a cart cover (it kept him germ free, and was a nice cushin in case he fell over in the cart). Mine has a loop to clip toys on. I would also carry a small backpack full of toys wherever I went. I would put it in the cart and just hand him one at a time. Or at 10 months maybe even give him a few cheerios or gerber’s puffs.
He was so proud the first time he road in the cart — I think you’ll like it once you start.
