I wanted to buy a small car. Initially, I wanted the MINI because of its unique look and feel, yet I haven’t test driven one yet. But considering the gocart handling and the doubt of its safety, I was looking into alternatives. I was told by a coworker NOT to get a Volkswagen coz of her problems with brakes or something. Is this true of all Volkswagens? Coz I’m considering getting a Rabbit, cute in its appearance…yet still uncertain of its quality and safety…Are there still Honda hatchbacks or derivatives of such? I would get one as a last resort, being that my last car that lasted for 12 years (just sold) was also a Honda. I’m looking for a new driving experience that’s enjoyable and safe….Please help me.? :) THANKS
I just looked at Volvo’s C30 site. It looks great, though mileage wise is a bit least to be desired (19 on city). But is it true that Volvo is considered one of the safest cars?…More replies needed :) thanks for your replies :)

I work in a dealership with people who has been selling cars for over 30 years. They always tells me NOT to buy a Volkswagon. They often have tons of problems froms brakes to windows falling out. One guy said it is the only brand it would not recomend. You might want to think about the Mazda 3 hatchback. It looks great, is safe and is a totally different driving experience from a Honda. ( I have an Honda Accord and had a Mazda 6 for a rental) . If your looking for 2 door hatchback you could also consider the Hyundai Accent. It one of the safest vehicles made.

they make a ford focus that is a hatchback. it is extremely reliable and awesome on gas milage (the 2003′s get 37 highway and 32 city mpg). not to mention cheap and easy to matenince. buying price isnt bad either.

    hope this helps!

There’s no accounting for tastes — I don’t think VW EVER made a good-looking car, except possibly the first Passat many years ago. Quality and safety is just fine, however. I wouldn’t worry about the safety of the MINI, either — It has airbags all over it and it’s really not all that light. The "gokart handling" is a plus, making it fun to drive and giving you good primary safety (accident avoidance capability).

get neither. An Acura RSX woul be way better and looks better. If not, get a Mistsubishi Lancer
