What could happen if i took the Governor off of my lawn mower engine that is powering my go cart?

   yes, just make it where you can use the throttle and speed it up that way…..

   Yes, you’d prolly wind up blowing it. Most common thing when that happens is throwing the rod.

   I think you’d go faster, they do it all the time in lawn mower racing (they remove the blades first of course!)

   You will brake the connecting rod, the speed will be to much and it will brake.

   It would run faster……….for a while before blowing up.

   Of course you will tell your dad that you have no idea why the engine blew, and you’ll ask him to buy a new one, RIGHT?

   you would definetly blow the engine
   This engine bearing (ROD BEARING)is cooled and lubed by the oil splashing.
   Sinse there is no oil pump the bearing would start slapping the crank from over reving and would brake the Rod

    engine will blow because the governor controls the rpms of the motor making sure this does not happen. but what the hell do it and go really fast for a short amount of time it will be fun!

    if you put a throttle control on the throttle shaft assembly to adjust as necessary and not over rev it it should be okay!

    If the weak valve springs don’t make the valves float alot…… the aluminum connecting rod (which briggs connecting rods are stronger than most) will be over stressed and break…… might or might not throw through the block (grenading) . I’ve seen some last a couple months or so without them running flat out as fast as they can.

    If you want more speed, change your sprockets to a faster gear ratio, or change pulleys on the torque convertor. Its not all about engine speed or even hp, its about what you do with it.

    You will most likely over rev the engine. Have a spring in place to pull throttle back to idle when you foot is off gas, then run it like you would a car. You would act as the governor. Over revving will shorten the life of the engine or it could possible throw a rod. I’ve run them maxed right out for a while and you’d be surprised sometimes how long they run before needing a rebuild( Briggs 5 hp) Run synthetic oil.
