I have an engine that i am putting on a go cart. i know i need to buy a clutch for the motor. i also would like to put a transmission on it if possible. I would love for it to have 5 foward speeds, reverse and neutral but if i cant have that then i would like to have atleast foward and reverse. i have read on the internet about torque converters but i dont really understand what they are for and if i even need one. i have a 5hp engine. any help or suggestion that you have would be great have.
Wow you’re really asking for a lot if you want forward and reverse gears on a 5 hp engine. I believe you would be much better off getting an engine that already has a gearbox attached. Like maybe off of an old wrecked 4-wheeler. You might also try a transmission off an old riding mower, this may not be geared for speed though. Hope I’ve given you some good ideas. Good luck!
