I find it very odd that every time I go to Publix they ask to help wheel my cart to my car. I am not a senior citizen, nor am I disabled. Usually I only have one or two bags in the cart, and I leave the cart inside the store and walk my bags out myself. Do they have some kind of across the board company policy that they have to ask everyone if they want this service?

Publix has a "Two and two" policy. That means, without asking, put 2 hands on the cart, and take 2 steps to the door. Every front service clerk or ‘bagger’ is required to do this. Even if they just ask you to take your cart out they can get in trouble. You have to be, for lack of a better word, forceful and assert yourself to the front of the cart and start pushing it without question. I personally disagree with this policy for 2 reasons:

    1) A lot of customers think it’s annoying and a few take it the wrong way (such as yourself) and can find it patronizing. I do not blame them! I would say 85% to 90% of the people checked out would rather push they’re own cart. And most of the people that let me push their cart just think I want to get outside.

    2) It’s 9:45 at night, and a creepy looking male customer is checking out and a young female is bagging the groceries. According to Publix, the policy is still enforced. I think this is very wrong! Not only is it just wrong for a young girl to take out a mans groceries all alone late at night, but it is also making us do something that makes us feel very uncomfortable.

This is just my 2 cents… Sorry if you don’t like the policy, but don’t blame your bagger, blame whoever it was that made up this policy! :)

Wow! They either have fantastic service, are afraid of losing their cart, or you are a real looker.
I thought the days of personal service had gone forever.

Yes. They want their baggers to ask every customer and of course, are very strict about them not recieving tips in exchange.

Yes. It is the employee’s job to serve the costumers as best as they can.

They are breaking company policy by asking! You should never be asked. Whomever bags your groceries is supposed to just take your cart unless, you refuse ….
