a lawn mower engine would need a Special mount to get it to work plus you would need a new carb since most lawn mower engines run at a set rpm and have a governor. you need a side crank engine like a brigs OHV or OHC engine they come in allot of different sizes and HP ratings. I had a go kart when I was younger it was an old shifter kart that I got for free it needed an engine and I could not afford to get the engine and tranny rebuilt so I saved up for a 12 horse Brigs OHC engine and geared it low so I could get some good speed out of it. that thing was fast I could get it up to 65 if I had enough room and it could still spin the tires off the line I didn’t even have to floor it..
A lawnmower engine would be a bit slow. A 250cc motorbike engine would be better.
Preferably a riding lawn mower engine a briggs and straton 250cc or better,a riding mower will all ready have drive axles ..make you own frame..good luck with that project..have fun.
Briggs and stratton type 5hp-10hp.
If you get creative for the wild driver you can use a snowmobile engine, a motorcycle engine, or just about anything that will fit and isn’t too heavy.
Just because you use a lawnmower engine doesn’t mean it will be slow because you don’t use the transmission from the mower. You put a centrifugal clutch on the drive end and it will work like a snowmobile does. I had a 5HP as kid and it would go about 40mph.
what about a1 of those wringer type washing machine motors.
