This is getting out of hand. When I go to Walmart or even the grocery store I see parents that have their 8 to 10 year olds sitting down in shopping carts. What kind of stupid parent does this? Who is in charge? The kid or the parent? Let me hear from some parents that do this. I would like to know what you have to say. Don’t you realize how that looks?

Ok children do attend to wander off in stores and do get lost but parents should have their children hold on to the cart until they reach the express lane.

I put my 4 year old in the shopping basket and my 2 year old in the place for kids to sit.
But the majority my 4 year old walks, like if im grocery shopping.

i think she is getting to big for the cart to though.

My daughter is six, though extremely small for her age. If there is one, I use the carts with the car in front. She constantly gets smooshed and pushed around, so I put her in there to keep her safe. Or I admit it, I put her in the big part of the cart if I only need a few things. My 15 month old gets seated in the baby seat part. But I do that so that she doesn’t get trampled on!

It’s the parent’s fault of course. That’s so dangerous. It’ll be too top heavy. I once crawled up in the cart with my younger brother and he reached out for some cookies in the grocery store and the whole thing tipped. Luckily he suffered no major injuries, and neither did I. Really stupid of parents. You can’t blame the 8 or 10 year old, because hell, I’d still sit in a cart if my parents approved of it and I’m almost 20. It’s pretty sweet.

If the child wants to sit in it then let them. What does it matter to you? Is it ruining your life that a child is sitting in a cart!!?? My god get a life!!

I stopped letting my kids get in the cart when they were too big for me to lift them up into it. They must be some really strong parents. Or really stupid if they are letting their kids climb up in there by themselves.

My 4 y/o generally walks..UNLESS tons of people so I can keep track of her. Sometimes hard to hold her hand and push the buggy too.

Rather convince her to stay home with her stepdad. I spend less money if they stay home lol

Who cares how it looks?? They are not at Walmart trying to impress people. You should focus on your shopping instead of worrying about an 8 year old and where they’re sitting.

Well i have a year old son who sets in the baby set of the cart an i usually have my neice with me who is 9 that i have set in the cart.. because I don’t want her getting into things… loosing her in the store because kids have a tenency to run off… and so that the other people don’t knock her over or anything… tHere is nothing wrong with it just looking out for our families you ass… Just because you have a problem with it means nothing…..

It is only dangerous if, as one woman above posted, the kids are playing by climbing in and out, hanging over the side, reaching for stuff. If they sit down there is no danger at all, and it is just a big stroller. Kids don’t have the energy reserves adults do, and they will just suddenly be very tired, so need a place to sit while Mom or Dad spend a couple hours at a mall. Anyway, playing on the cart = bad; sitting in the cart = not bad.

I let my daughter sit in the cart at walmart. Especially if I’m in a hurry grabbing a few things or it is really busy. I couldn’t tell you how many times, she has been knocked over by some idoit.

Personally I don’t care how it looks, so why should you?

I have a four yr old and a seven yr old, the four yr old sits in the front "seat" of the cart and the seven yr old occasionally will sit in the basket part of it, mainly when the store is really busy, especially this time of year. Mostly I go shopping during the day when she is in school, however when I do go shopping with her, if the store isn’t too crowded she walks with me, but she was almost taken once, so I would rather look bad by having her where I know where she is, than to loose her and spend hopeless hours looking for her!!

I HAVE to put my 7 yo son in the basket part of the cart. If I need to shop for an extended period of time thats where he goes. Because he is autistic and wants to run away. He thinks its funny. Im not leaving my son at home because it would be "easier" for me. A lot of things could be "easier" for me but I deal with it and move on. A few years ago what people like you thought bothered me and made me stress when making a trip to the store.. Because you dont know the story of why people have kids that behave the way they do, Sure, some of it may be bad parenting, but with autism growing every year ( 1 in 166 kids will get autism) you may be seeing stranger and stranger parent/child interactions as time goes by. He’s not going to wear a sign and i’m not explaining it to every jerk in the store that gives me their looks of death. My son looks just like any other kid. But you’ll figure it out….

I have a 21 month old, & when he gets that age, depending on the circumstances, I just might put him in the cart. Some of these so called "adults" out here are not looking for children to dart in front of them or watching if the store is busy & a child gets seperated from the parent.

I, myself don’t care if these self centered "adults" look at me funny or even care what they think. It is my responsibility to protect my child, not theirs. And as long as my son sit’s in the cart & doesn’t cause harm or any problems, the snoody people can take a hike.
